The Costus in the Sunnah

Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Some of the best treatments are in cupping (hijama) and the costus sailor. "

(Sahih Muslim and Sahih Al Bukhary)

Umm Qays bint Mihsan radhi Allahu anha said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم say:" It is for you to use "Al 3Oud al Hindy", because indeed it contains seven remedies, it is inhaled through the nostrils to remove sore throat and placed on the sides of the mouth for the relief of Dhaat al Janb (disease which gives rise to abscesses) "

What is the difference between Indian and Marine Costus?

There are two types (Arb. Qust / Kist):

1. the white root of the medicinal plant known as the common inula, Arb. Raasin Tibbi;

And

2. the aromatic root of the Indian aloe tree (Arb. 'Oud Hindi), commonly called aloe.

Kust-roots or Costus, commonly known as Indian aloe vera have hot, dry third-degree temperaments and provide additional heat. While the white variety, known as the common inula. Both provide considerable medicinal effects.

What are the benefits of Costus?

Here is a non-exhaustive list of the medicinal effects of Indian costus (Indian aloe):

Regarding the white root (inula):

  -It helps with regard to the flow of menstrual blood

  -It is Vermifuge (destroys intestinal worms)

  -Acts as an antidote for poison

  -It helps in the disappearance of freckles

  -It fights against colds by inhaling its vapor in decoction

The two roots dry up excess phlegm, and help remedy a cold head, or acute nasal congestion (catarrh, Arb. Zukaam).

How to use the costus?

Drinking costus infusion helps liver weakness, weak digestion, lack of stomach, stomach flu, liver diarrhea; And helps as an antipyretic to bring down recurrent febris, quells phlegmonous quartan fever.

An infusion of Costus mixed with water and honey helps control discoloration of the skin on the face and chest resulting from pregnancy or malnutrition. Also helps in the removal of scars, surgical or otherwise.

An ointment from it helps back pain, or rheumatic pain in the lumbar region (lumbago); Also kills ringworm, and to remove dry scales spread through the skin, including dandruff.

Costus can also help with spasmodic contractions and stiffness of voluntary muscles (tetanus).

Costus is used in the treatment of pleurisy.

The roots of the Costus can also help with asthma symptoms and heaviness in the chest.
